Between Flavours and Nature: Morgans in the Dolomites
Dobbiaco, 24-27 September 2026
This year my 1978 Morgan Plus 8 took to the roads of the Dolomites for the Morgan Club Italia rally. Three days of mountain passes, breathtaking views, speck and cheese, in wonderful company.
Thursday 24 September: arrival in Dobbiaco
We gathered in Dobbiaco (Toblach), just above 1,200 metres at the entrance to the Alta Pusteria valley. Hotel Laurin welcomed us with its usual hospitality, and at dinner we caught up with old friends and met new ones. It was the best possible way to begin.
Friday 25 September: the passes and Piz La Ila
At 9:30 the Morgans lined up and set off for Cortina d’Ampezzo. From there we climbed to Passo Falzarego, then descended towards Pieve di Livinallongo and Arabba. We crossed Passo Campolongo and drove through Corvara to La Villa, about 90 km of bends and panoramas.
At La Villa we left the cars and took the gondola up to Piz La Ila, at 2,100 metres, above the legendary Gran Risa ski slope. Up there, lunch awaited us at Club Moritzino, with views over the Dolomites.
At 3 pm we set off again from La Villa towards San Vigilio di Marebbe, Passo Furcia and Valdaora, reaching Dobbiaco around 4:30 pm after another 70 km.
Saturday 26 September: speck, bread and cheese
In the morning we drove to the Casies Valley, guests at a farm that makes artisanal speck and bakes bread in a wood-fired oven. We discovered the secrets of South Tyrolean speck and even got our hands dirty shaping the bread. Then came a simple, genuine lunch, all together.
In the afternoon we returned to Dobbiaco for a guided visit to Mondo Latte, the Latteria Tre Cime dairy. We saw how cheese is made, visited the small museum and enjoyed a tasting. The day ended with our last dinner at the hotel.
Sunday 27 September: farewells
Breakfast and hugs. In total we covered about 190 km, between the pass tour and the trips to the Casies Valley.
