18 October 2025 6th Coppa della Garisenda

I had not attended the Coppa della Garisenda since the 2022 edition, and I missed the warm welcome of the Bolognese friends at the Club Bologna Autostoriche. This year, my calendar finally allowed me to join this wonderful event, which once again proved to be one of my favorite rallies.

As always, I prefer events where I can explore new places, meet old and new friends, taste local culinary specialties, and appreciate the unique characteristics of a region I rarely visit.

For this long weekend, I chose my Jaguar XK 140 Coupé, whose speed and comfort allowed me to travel comfortably and stay warm, despite the crisp autumn temperatures.

Saturday, October 18, 2025

The day began at the picturesque Castello dei Manzoli in San Martino di Soverzano, a short drive from Bologna. Participants were welcomed for registration and received information material about the event. After a short technical briefing, the historic cars set off in a convoy, traversing the Bolognese plain dotted with castles, historic villas, and vast estates.

Along the route, I frequently stopped to admire and photograph ancient mansions and characteristic villages, immersing myself in the charm of historic places. One of the most impressive stops was the Malvezzi Campeggi Estate in Bagnarola di Budrio, a private countryside estate normally closed to the public, belonging to a prominent Bolognese aristocratic family.

The route continued to Selva Malvezzi, at the Palazzo Comitale built by Carlo Malvezzi in 1455. Here, the current owner, a fellow member and historic car enthusiast, shared anecdotes about the origins of Abarth.

Traveling through the Bolognese plain, we passed Bagnara di Romagna and reached the first hills at Riolo Terme, where we enjoyed lunch at the historic Rocca di Riolo, whose original nucleus dates back to 1388. The Rocca, with its imposing halls and inner courtyards, was the perfect place to savor local dishes and exchange impressions with friends.

In the afternoon, the journey resumed through the first Bolognese hills, offering breathtaking panoramas and thrilling driving moments. The first day concluded at the prestigious Hotel Anusca Palace in Castel S. Pietro Terme, where we settled into our reserved rooms and relaxed in the wellness area.

Dinner was held at the renowned Istituto Alberghiero Bartolomeo Scappi, a convivial moment where we shared experiences and stories with fellow enthusiasts.

Sunday, October 19, 2025

After a leisurely breakfast and preparing the cars, the second day began from Castel S. Pietro Terme. The convoy headed toward Bologna, traveling through hills and plains, with stops at sites of historical and cultural interest.

The first stop was the splendid Palazzona di Maggio, where we learned the secrets of the local wines and the estate’s history, including stories about a famous Bolognese hill climb driver. Some regularity trials took place at the nearby FlyOzzano Airfield.

Heading toward the city, we arrived at Caserma Viali 121° Reggimento Artiglieria Contraerea “Ravenna” for further regularity tests and a pleasant aperitif.

Finally, in the heart of Bologna, the historic cars made a triumphant entrance in Piazza San Domenico, displayed for the public. Next, all participants moved to Piazza Santo Stefano, in the nearby Via De’ Pepoli venue, the site of the Maserati brothers’ first workshop, for the closing lunch.

During lunch, the results of the regularity tests were announced, and participants were awarded, with special prizes for the most remarkable cars. The winner received a prestigious O.S.C.A. STORE watch, presented by Fabia Maserati, Ernesto Maserati’s granddaughter and owner of the company.

The event concluded with a group photo under Bologna’s Two Towers and a special moment for charity: the official presentation of the fundraising campaign for the restoration of the Torre Garisenda, a city landmark. With greetings from the organizers and thanks to all participants, the 6th Coppa Garisenda ended, leaving memories of two days filled with emotions, culture, gastronomy, and friendship.

7 June 2025 BRITISH MOTOR CLUB ITALIA ” LA PRIMA – VERA IN CANTINA”

Dear Friend and Member, the 2025 season is about to begin…

On Saturday, June 7th, we invite you to our first event of the year: “Springtime in the Cellar.”
Once again, we have chosen one of the most charming areas of Franciacorta, where we will gather in the splendid setting of Cantine Caruna, a prestigious and refined winery that will open its gates to welcome all of us and our beloved English cars.

In July, on Saturday the 19th, we will depart together from Brescia for an outing to the clear and crystalline Lake Ledro, a unique body of water located in the valley of the same name, suspended at 655 meters between Lake Garda and the Valle del Chiese.

The long-awaited 2025 edition of the British Car Meeting, unmissable for all enthusiasts of historic English cars, will take place on the first weekend of September, from the 4th to the 7th.
There will be several new features this year: we have extended the hotel stay even further to add, to the already well-known and much-appreciated tours, a spectacular drive around Lake Idro.

1 May 2025 A Journey Among the Sparkling Peaks of Piedmont

I set off from Brescia in my 1956 Jaguar XK 140 FHC to embark on a long journey and take part in the magnificent “Piemonte Scintillanti Vette” rally, organized by the Historic Racing Club Fascia d’Oro of Montichiari. It is a very close-knit association, led by its president, Emanuele Prignacca, who always devotes great care and attention to the organization of these events.
His goal is to guide club members through cultural and touristic experiences that allow them to deepen their knowledge of the territories visited—their culture, traditions, culinary specialties, and breathtaking landscapes.
To him and all his staff, I extend my heartfelt thanks for this wonderful journey among the sparkling peaks of Piedmont.

When I left Brescia, at the wheel of my 1956 Jaguar XK 140 FHC, I could already feel my heart race. It wasn’t just a departure aboard an old four-wheeled companion: it was the beginning of a journey that blended my passion for automobiles with the timeless charm of Piedmont.

Day 1 – May 1st: Industrial and Magical Turin

Arriving in Turin with my vintage Jaguar felt like crossing a bridge through time. The DoubleTree by Hilton Turin Lingotto hotel, created from the former FIAT factory, welcomed me with its industrial grandeur. Imagine the roar of my engine echoing through a place once filled with factory life—a poignant yet fascinating contrast. The building was redesigned by Renzo Piano, and that rooftop test track, made famous by the film The Italian Job, sent shivers down my spine.

After a quick coffee at the hotel, we headed to MAUTO – the National Automobile Museum. Walking among those historic cars felt like a true pilgrimage: every curve of a bodywork told a story; every silent engine whispered memories. The guided tour of the Restoration Center made me feel part of a community that loves, protects, and honors these classic vehicles. MAUTO hosts over 200 cars from 80 different brands.

In the evening, dinner at the hotel became a moment of deep connection: together with the members of the Historic Racing Club Fascia d’Oro, we toasted to our shared passion and to the beauty of the rally awaiting us. Afterwards came the “Magical Turin” tour—a nighttime walk under the city lights, among esoteric legends, mysterious symbolism, and hidden corners. During those hours, Turin revealed a side of itself I had never seen.

Day 2 – May 2nd: Monviso and the Sources of the Po River

The next morning, the air was crisp and full of promise. After a hearty breakfast, we left for the historic FIAT Archive, housed in a Liberty-style building that preserves the memory of Turin’s automotive industry. I felt pride and humility at once, gazing at old projects, documents, and sketches—and thinking of how complex the path must have been for those who created these iconic machines.

Then the road began to climb, and the landscape quickly transformed: from Turin’s city streets we ascended toward the mountains. Crossing the valleys, breathing the thin air, and seeing the imposing silhouette of Monviso in the distance stirred a pure emotion in me. When we arrived at Pian del Re, where the Po River springs from the earth, I parked the Jaguar and stepped out to contemplate that magical place. The sources lie at an altitude of 2,020 meters, in a silent plateau where water emerges shyly among the rocks.

Sitting on a stone, I let out a sigh of wonder: from there begins the river that crosses much of Italy. It was a moment of humility before nature, yet also of awe—the Po, Italy’s longest river, has its heart right there among the mountains.

Day 3 – May 3rd: Vicoforte, Saluzzo, and the Art of Piedmont

The day began by driving along panoramic roads, with the Jaguar stretching happily through curves and mountain views. Our journey took us to Vicoforte, a village that seems to come straight out of a Baroque fairy tale. Here rises the Sanctuary of Regina Montis Regalis, famous for having the largest elliptical dome in the world.

Entering the sanctuary was almost a transcendent experience: light filtered onto the frescoed walls, and those frescoes covered more than 6,000 square meters.

After the visit, we headed to Saluzzo, a medieval town with a fortress and ancient alleys. In the afternoon I was able to stroll through its streets, absorb the history of its walls, and breathe the scent of flowers in its squares. Dinner at the Alter Hotel in Barge was a perfect convivial moment: we savored local specialties, shared stories of past rallies, and were already dreaming of future adventures.

The evening concluded with an aperitif at the Luciano & C. Collection, a small gem for vintage car lovers, celebrating Piedmontese automobiles through exquisite pieces. Then came a final dinner at Il Sigillo restaurant, in a medieval village, where Piedmontese cuisine transformed into gastronomic art.

Day 4 – May 4th: Castle, Cavalry, and a Memorable Farewell

The last day arrived with a golden light, as if trying to hold on to the magic for a little longer. Our first stop was the Castle of Miradolo, a historic estate nestled in the Piedmontese hills and once owned by the Cacherano di Bricherasio family. Walking through its gardens and elegant architecture gave me a deep sense of peace and gratitude.

Then my Jaguar carried me to Pinerolo, home to the Historical Museum of the Cavalry Regiment, one of the richest of its kind in Europe. Seeing armors, uniforms, and stories of cavalry brought me back to the great military epic and the symbolism of the horse and honor. It was a stop that united two worlds: the mechanical and the traditional.

For lunch, we chose a special place in Cercenasco, where I savored an authentic Gran Fritto Misto alla Piemontese, a triumph of local flavors. Each bite felt like a slow farewell to this region that had given me so much. When I restarted my Jaguar’s engine to head home, I felt a blend of joy and melancholy.

November 9, 2024. British Car Meeting “Spiedo di San Martino” at Padernello Castle

British Car Meeting “Spiedo di San Martino” at Padernello Castle

The traditional San Martino spit event was also renewed in 2024 with the British Car Meeting “Slow Drive & Slow Food” at Padernello Castle. This event, the result of a ten-year collaboration with President Domenico Pedroni, promotes the enhancement of rural villages in a tourist-cultural key.

An always pleasant meeting, among collectors, with an exhibition of the cars at the foot of the Castle and a guided tour to discover this spectacular manor that dates back to the 14th century. For lunch, we were hosted in one of the most welcoming rooms, to enjoy the inevitable spit and the traditional “minestrina sporca”. Franciacorta bubbles are a must at these events, appreciated by all participants.

The cars admitted were 30 English built before 1980.

For the occasion, we decided to participate with our rare 1956 Jaguar XK 140 coupé.

Another day spent in the company of passionate friends that we will certainly repeat for the next edition!

22 SEPTEMBER 2024 THE ROAD OF MEMORIES LIONS CLUB MONTORFANO FRANCIACORTA

November 11, 2023 St. Martin in English style

The Brescian spit of San Martino is a pleasant custom of the British Motor Club Italia. I accepted without hesitation the invitation of Simone Chiolo, president of the Club, both to see old friends and to take my Jaguar XK140, which had been sitting in the garage for too long, out on the road.

On Saturday 11 November we met at the 1000 Miglia Museum, and then moved in a caravan towards Serle, the “capital” of the typical Brescian dish.

Having reached the Agriturismo dell’Altipiano, located on the Altopiano delle Cariadeghe, we stopped in happy company until late afternoon.

Back in the city, we are already looking forward to the next delicious event of the Club!

History and Restoration

In 1976, the car was imported into Italy, still bearing its original British registration.

On April 19, 1980, it was registered by its first Italian owner with the plate TO U79517.

A year later, on April 11, 1981, it passed to the second owner, who retained the original Modena plates (MO532558) from that era. In 2008, due to the advanced age of its third owner (born in 1938), the car was reluctantly transferred to Cristiano Luzzago’s collection.

At the time of purchase, the car still featured its original finish, as documented by photographs taken before the extensive restoration and maintenance work. The most notable interventions included:

  • Full repainting
  • Replacement of all seals
  • Complete overhaul of the braking system
  • Battery replacement
  • Installation of a new stainless steel exhaust system
  • Fitting of Michelin tires
  • Cooling system maintenance
  • Fuel pump replacement
  • Tank refurbishment

Despite these interventions, the car has never undergone a complete restoration, preserving its original character. The presence of the original green registration booklet and a detailed chronological extract impeccably document the vehicle’s entire history in Italy.

In January 2025, the car was awarded the “JAGUAR HERITAGE TRUST CERTIFICATE,” which certifies the complete originality of its colors and the consistency of all chassis and engine numbers, confirming its status as a collector’s piece.
