Model History

The FIAT 1500 Spider Pininfarina is among the most elegant Italian roadsters of the 1960s, born from the collaboration between FIAT and Pininfarina — two icons of Italian automotive design and engineering.

Built from 1961 to 1966, it was the direct evolution of the 1200 Spider, retaining the beautiful lines drawn by Tom Tjaarda for Pininfarina, but improved with a more powerful engine, enhanced mechanicals, and a higher level of finish.

The 1963 model year marked the car’s full maturity, featuring the distinctive slim front grille, split chrome bumpers, and a refined cabin with Jaeger instruments, black vinyl upholstery, and a black fabric top.

Technical Specifications

Powered by the 1,491 cc inline four-cylinder engine (code 115.005) with an overhead-valve layout and a twin-choke Weber carburetor, it delivers around 80 hp at 5,800 rpm and a top speed of approximately 165 km/h.

The four-speed manual gearbox ensures smooth gear changes, while the suspension setup — independent front wheels and rigid rear axle — offers a well-balanced combination of comfort and handling.

Braking is provided by drum brakes on all four wheels, typical of early 1960s sports cars, reliable and easy to maintain.

Rarity and Documentation

Although about 25,000 examples were built, few survive today in matching-numbers condition and with such a high level of originality.

This example stands out for its fully matching engine and chassis numbers, its ASI Certificate of Historical Significance, and its excellent documentation, including original FIAT and Pininfarina workshop manuals and spare parts catalogues — invaluable materials for collectors.

In 2023, the car received a complete service, including five new Bridgestone tyres and a thorough mechanical check.

It shows some minor paint defects, but overall it remains an elegant and authentic example, ideal for immediate use or as a base for a light restoration.

Historical and Collectible Value

Elegant, reliable, and historically certified, this 1963 FIAT 1500 Spider Pininfarina represents an excellent opportunity for enthusiasts seeking a stylish Italian roadster with genuine heritage, eligible for classic car events and tours worldwide.
