4-8 OTTOBRE 2023 REGISTRO INTERNAZIONALE TOURING SUPERLEGGERA – MEETING MUNICH BAVARIA
The meetings of the Registro Touring Superleggera are a guarantee, and even more so I couldn’t miss the meeting in Bavaria organized by Lukas Menke, a Bavarian member of the Registry as well as a great collector in love with Italy.
About forty Touring Superleggera-bodied cars from the most prestigious brands were taking part in the rally: Maserati, Aston Martin, Alfa Romeo, Lancia and two unusual models, a Sunbeam Alpine and a Hillmann Minx.
I started the engines of the Aston Martin DB6, whose comfort always makes me prefer it on long journeys, to reach Gräfelfing, a village just outside Munich, and on the morning of 5 October I left with the other crews for the first stop, the Castle of Neuschwanstein. I arrived at the home of the eccentric sovereign Ludwig II after a splendid journey along the Romantische Strasse. Lunch in a typical brewery and afternoon visit to the well-known Wies Sanctuary, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The following day is entirely dedicated to the world of BMW: morning in the historic factory, with a visit to the restoration department (the BMW 328 with Touring bodywork, winner of the Mille Miglia in 1940 is notable) and followed by tours of the BMW Museum and the BMW Welt, two futuristic structures that they valorise the past, present and future of the German brand to the extreme. A visit to the factory, with highly technological production departments, could not be missed.
On Saturday 7 October, space will be given to another symbolic German automotive brand, Mercedes Benz, with a visit to HK Engineering, the most important restorer of 300 SL Gullwings and Roadsters. In the afternoon visit to the Buchheim Museum, a venue with bold architecture that combines four different exhibitions (the paintings from the expressionist school are splendid); dinner in the typical Kloster Gasthof of Andechs after a visit to the adjacent church, the oldest pilgrimage site in Bavaria.
The last day, Sunday, opened with the vintage bus transfer to the center of Munich, where the excellent guide Michael involved us in an in-depth guided tour of the city’s many architectural beauties. Stop at the brewery near Marienplatz and again at the hotel, to say goodbye and set off again.
A beautiful, varied and engaging gathering: thanks to Franco Bruno Ronchi, president of the Touring Superleggera Registry, to Alessandra Giorgetti, secretary, and above all to Lukas Menke and his friends, who scrupulously organized our stay in Bavaria.
